What kind of lubricant cannot be ignited by open flame?

Do you know how many times a large compressor shuts down every year due to lubricant failures?
Are you aware that ordinary engine oil cannot be used in certain areas of coal mines and chemical plants?
Exposed to high temperatures, high pressure and open flames, conventional lubricants can even act as combustion accelerants. In contrast, PAG synthetic oils feature flame resistance and non-spontaneous combustion, and extinguish once the ignition source is removed. This key property makes them the safety baseline for high-risk working environments.
How is this flame-retardant technology realized? The answer lies in Sinochem Dongda’s “White Tech”.
Sinochem Dongda offers professional PAG (Polyalkylene Glycol) series products divided into water-soluble and water-insoluble grades. Tailored for high-end lubrication, cooling, sealing, rust prevention and other applications, they deliver stable, safe and long-lasting base stock raw materials for high-temperature equipment, special machinery and precision manufacturing.

(1) Unique Inverse Solubility This is the most groundbreaking property of water-soluble PAG. It dissolves completely in water at ambient temperature to form a clear and transparent solution. When the temperature rises to the critical range (generally 60–80°C), it separates out automatically and evenly adheres to metal surfaces to form a dense protective lubricating film. It redissolves in water once the temperature drops.
This characteristic addresses a long-standing challenge in the heat treatment industry. Traditional water cooling delivers fast cooling yet easily causes cracking and deformation of workpieces; oil cooling offers milder cooling but carries fire hazards. PAG quenching fluids achieve sufficient cooling efficiency while effectively preventing workpiece cracking with wider adaptability. Sinochem Dongda’s products feature stable batch quality and minor fluctuations in critical temperature values. Pre-diluted aqueous formulations of multiple specifications are available for convenient deployment across diverse production scenarios.
(2) Outstanding Flame Resistance and Safety The product boasts a flash point above 250°C, significantly superior to conventional mineral oils. It is non-spontaneously combustible and non-combustion-supporting, and self-extinguishes upon removal of ignition sources. When blended with water to form water-based systems, it meets the highest industrial flame resistance standards.
In high-temperature and high-risk operations such as coal mining, chemical production and metallurgy, it serves as a safety medium for hydraulic systems, fundamentally eliminating fire and explosion risks triggered by hydraulic oil leakage and reinforcing safeguards for production safety.
(3) Excellent Cleaning Performance and Environmental Friendliness No sludge, carbon deposits or residual varnish forms even under prolonged high-temperature operation, keeping equipment interiors clean and effectively extending service life. The material is biodegradable, non-toxic and non-irritating, complying with environmental standards. Maintenance and cleaning are convenient, as residual grease can be thoroughly rinsed away with clean water. (1) Excellent Low-temperature Fluidity When temperature declines, the viscosity of water-insoluble PAG rises far more gently compared with mineral oils and PAO (Polyalphaolefin). At temperatures where mineral oils thicken into pastes, water-insoluble PAG maintains relatively low Brookfield viscosity. It performs reliably in extremely cold environments with excellent low-temperature start-up capacity and can rapidly form lubricating films without preheating. It is particularly suitable for equipment operating in northern and high-altitude regions.
(2) Outstanding Compatibility with Hydrocarbon Gases Hardly diluted by hydrocarbon gases including methane, ethane and propane. It retains stable viscosity and lubricating performance under high-pressure gas conditions, solving the lubrication failure issue of mineral oils diluted by gases inside gas compressors.
(3) Optimal Compatibility with Refrigerants It features favorable chemical stability and will not react with refrigerants. Its excellent lubricity effectively protects moving compressor components.
(4) Good Seal Compatibility Compatible with widely used sealing materials such as fluororubber and EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer rubber). It will not trigger expansion, shrinkage or aging of seals, maintaining good system tightness and lowering leakage risks.
